DB Cargo relies on MFD Rail for the future
On September 29, 2021, DB Cargo AG and MFD Rail signed an agreement on a strategic partnership.
To this end, a long-term lease agreement was agreed under which DB Cargo can lease up to 2,400 freight wagons of various types for intermodal railcars from the newly established intermodal specialist MFD Rail. The delivery of the first tranche of 710 wagons has already begun and will continue until 2023.
The innovative agreement gives DB Cargo flexibility in its expansion and to further improve the modal split, enabling it to respond quickly to changes in the market. For MFD Rail it offers the opportunity to participate in the growth of its largest customer and to pursue its own ambitious growth targets. MFD Rail is proud to be able to make a contribution that the climate-friendly rail freight transport can continue to grow. As Europe’s largest rail freight undertaking, DB Cargo has a decisive part to play in achieving a transport turnaround. Germany’s and Europe’s CO2 targets can only be achieved if more freight is shifted from road to rail.
A win-win situation that becomes reality with the new strategic partnership.
